Thanks Marty, today I’m going to play a Beatles song, recently recorded at HairyLarryLand.
I met Jay Shepherd years ago when he played at Blues Fest in the Shugga Shane band and 3MG. I recorded those shows and played them on Something Blue. 3MG featuring Shane Chastain – piano and vocals and Jay Shepherd – guitar and vocals. They would take requests from the audience and play everything from Lady Gaga to Merle Haggard.
After I retired and went back to school I took classes and played in jazz groups with Jay. He even played on my Senior Recital.
At the Delta Jazz Workshop I worked with Jay teaching Jazz Improvisation. He helped me with the small groups I directed. And I recorded his group playing in one of the evening concerts. Great jazz that I have played on KASU many times.
And now I recorded Jay again, just this summer, and he put down an an album of classical and sacred music with one pop song. I bet you don’t have to guess which song I picked to play today.
